RAPHOE PROVE THE REAL ‘DEELE’ AT ETB’S BRILLIANT ENTERPRISE DAY

first_imgDeele College from Raphoe with mentor Charlie Boyle and teacher Danny McFadden after winning the Dragon’s Den.Deele College from Raphoe may have been crowned Dragon’s Den champions for the Donegal ETB’s second Enterprise Day for schools and Youthreach centres across the county in LYIT yesterday.But the reality was that there were no losers.In fact, the standard was so high that real-life dragon Peter Casey probably wouldn’t have passed the entry level! The day followed on from its first very successful Enterprise Day in October 2013.Scoil Mhuire from Buncrana who came overall second on the day.This time the invitation to participate was extended to non-ETB schools with a total of twelve schools and two Youthreach centres participating.MC for the morning was Highland Radio’s Lee Gooch. The day involved each team developing a product on which they were judged in a Dragon’s Den-type set up.Teams were given a business mentor and an LYIT business studies student to guide them throughout the day. Image consultant Billie Dixon spoke to participants in the morning on how to present themselves while later on representatives from local companies made presentations to the teams on how to pitch a business idea.Loreto Letterkenny who came third.After all teams pitched their ideas to the judges, the final three teams then pitched their business idea to all participants. The day also included fun activities, ice breakers and team building games with staff from Gartan Outdoor Education and Training Centre.The winners of the Enterprise Day were Deele College, Raphoe with Scoil Mhuire, Buncrana taking second place and Loreto Letterkenny taking third place.The other participating schools and centres were Errigal College, Letterkenny; Gairmscoil Chu Uladh, Ballinamore; Loreto Community School, Milford; Ballyshannon Youthreach, Letterkenny Youthreach; Finn Valley College, Stranorlar; St Columba’s College, Stranorlar; Magh Ene College, Bundoran; Abbey Vocational School, Donegal Town; Crana College, Buncrana and Mulroy College, Milford.Donegal ETB and the organising committee would like to extend a huge thank you to all students, teachers, mentors, judges, Gartan OETC staff, Lee Gooch and LYIT for assisting with the day.
