Training for excellence

first_imgThe City of York will become a centre of excellence for training andeducation in the rail industry when the new Yorkshire Rail Academy (YRA) opensin September this year. Developed jointly by York College and the National Railway Museum, and fundedwith £1.25m by Yorkshire Forward and the Learning and Skills Council, the YRAwill become a prime education and training centre for the industry . It will be housed in a building adjacent to York’s National RailwayMuseum,and will be the first of its kind in the country. Incorporated in theYRA will be York College’s Centre of Vocational Excellence for railway andsignalling engineering. The new academy will provide training for rail employees and modernapprentices. The academy’s intention is to become a centre of excellence for all aspectsof rail education, training and research and will engage with all partners inthe rail industry, and particularly employers.
