The ANC of the Ukhahklamba region celebrated 104 years of existence of the party yesterday in Sahlumbe (Ward 10). The celebrations took place in an area which was previously a “no go zone” for the ANC. KZN Provincial chairperson of the ANC Cde Sihle Zikalala welcomed close to 100 new members to the ANC who had previously been members of other political parties. Before Cde Zikalala swore in the new members, he delivered a speech in which he urged members of the ANC to continue with the work of growing the party in the Sahlumbe area. He spoke largely of how the ANC in the Ukhahlamba region is doing a great job in sustaining and building unity within the party, and applauded the regional leadership for that. Besides the celebration of the 104 years of the ANC, the event was used largely as a day in which the community was urged to vote for Ward 10 by-election candidate Siyabonga Mbatha. Mbatha is in the running for the position of councillor in that ward that has never been led by the ANC. The by-election will be taking place on Wednesday, January 20. As the provincial chairperson said in his speech, “The ANC is not just a political party, the ANC is a liberation movement which stood up against the oppressors of the apartheid regime.” The ANC of the UKhahlamba region will continue in its undying efforts to win these wards that were previously known as “no go areas” of the ANC and in such efforts will continue in welcoming new members of the ANC who were previously in other political parties.center_img WebsiteWebsiteWebsite WebsiteWebsiteWebsite WebsiteWebsiteWebsite last_img read more
